The app is different from existing apps for gas engineers because it is created by experienced, registered gas engineers. The app contains downloadable manuals for boilers, cookers, gas fires and warm air units, plus documents such as Warning Advice Notices, Gas Safety Records and Job Sheets. There are also various tools that might be used regularly such as a Pipe Sizing Calculator, Combustion Ratio Guidelines, Boiler Service Checklists and a Purge Calculator. And there are revision notes for ACS assessments should engineers need a refresher, and much more. The app also has a social element, with a timeline enabling engineers to voice their opinion about work done, share their views, ask for advice and gather and share information. And for those who enjoy a bit of banter, the app contains a ‘horror show’ photo gallery. Pictures of shocking work done by rogue traders can be uploaded, and there will be regular competitions for the best (worst) picture. Gas App UK will become an integral part of engineers’ day-to-day work, think founders of the app Antony Provan and Matthew Stonehouse. “The app offers everything that we use on a regular basis. And the benefits are substantial. A lot of time and effort has gone into creating this app with the ultimate goal of saving engineers a lot of time and effort,” said Provan, Engineers will have access to all of the information they might need in one place. They won’t have to waste time searching for resources while on a job. They will have manuals to hand to diagnose problems. And they can interact with other engineers. The app, which is available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices, will cost £25 a year. “We know the app isn’t for everyone,” said Provan. “Some engineers won’t want to pay the 48p a week. But it’s worth it, given everything that the app offers, all the valuable information it contains and the social aspect of it. They will not be wasting their money. Gas App UK will save engineers massive amounts of time and effort and make their life so much easier.” Engineers can also use the timeline feature to call on the expertise of their colleagues to compare faults and diagnoses. “You are always learning in the gas industry. And the app really facilitates this learning and sharing of experiences and expertise,” said Provan. iOS – https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/gas-app-uk/id1033168436?mt=8 Android – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.safegas.gasappuk Share ! tweet
