Recap The new Directive is for ecodesign and energy labelling of space and water heaters ensuring they meet minimum efficiency requirements, and will be mandatory for all 28 countries in the EU. Many heating products will be affected, including gas and oil boilers, cylinders, heat pumps and solar thermal cylinders. Manufacturers will be responsible for ensuring their products are prepared for the new legislation change, including incorporating modulating pumps. In addition, manufacturers will be responsible for ensuring their products have compliant energy labels, which must be clearly visible on the product at the point of sale. Each product must also include a fiche of energy efficiency information documents. Help for installers Installers supplying a complete heating system will be required to calculate and issue system/package efficiency labels. In order to make this easier for installers, Plumb and Parts Center has developed an online package calculator and label generator here: www.plumbcenter.co.uk/en/info/erp-resource-zone This simple calculator is easy to use and is also enabled for use on smart phones and tablets, for installers on-the-go. ErP package labels and fiches can be produced simply by inputting the efficiency ratings of the various system components and saved as pdfs, which can be emailed to the customer. Also included in the Resource Zone are videos which give a quick recap of what ErP is and why installers need to be aware of it, easy links to more articles on ErP and the supplier zone, for information on manufacturers’ ErP-rated products.
