Charitable team of gas engineers offer £50 boiler services to raise money for woman with aggressive cancer

A group of heating engineers is exchanging boiler services for donations to help a woman with aggressive cancer find a new treatment.
30-year-old Jadi Best was diagnosed with cancer when she was 22. Six years later in May 2016 she was told it had spread to her bones, liver and lungs, and was stage 4 incurable.
She’s recently learned the aggressive cancer has progressed to her brain, and she’s running out of options for treatment.
Jadi, from Bingham East Midlands, has started a GoFundMe, looking for £100,000 to trial different treatments from specialists, in a bid to live a longer life.
To help her in her cause, a group of heating engineers in the Nottingham area are donating their time by carrying out boiler services in exchange for donations of £50. The goal is to do 100 services for members of the local community, and raise £5,000.

Tom Selby from J T Selby Heating, Plumbing and Gas, has known Jadi since they were young children, and wanted to do something to help:
“I’ve known Jadi since infants’ school and we grew up two roads away from each other, so that’s nearly 26 years.
“We thought she’d beaten the cancer a while ago but it came back, and there’s only so much the NHS can do.
“When I first heard she needed £10,000 I thought she’d be able to make that quite easily through donations, but when the figure shot up to £100,000 I knew I had to do something to help.
“The best thing I could think of is offering boiler services in exchange for a £50 donation. It’s my job and I enjoy doing it, and I can get them done around my normal work hours. It’s good for the customers too because it might encourage people who wouldn’t normally get their boiler checked to do so, knowing it’s for a good cause.
“The plan is to do 100 services which will raise £5,000, but luckily people are already donating more. The service I’m doing tonight, the customer has already donated £100, so that total figure is hopefully going to end up much higher.
“I spoke to other Gas Safe engineers in my area Martin Shelton and Marcus Bull, and they agreed to help out. Between us we’ve got all of Nottingham covered and we’re already averaging one a day.
“We’ve also got trainee Jacob Hoyes assisting us and getting hands-on experience, plus Jonathon Hallam from Heroes of Heat is supporting us and helping to get the word out there.
“The whole community is working together for a good cause and it’s great to see.”
