BiKBBI launches AiM – a new accreditation to elevate standards in KBB installation

The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI) recently announced the launch of Accredited Installation Methods (AiM), an industry-specific certification scheme for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom installation sector.

The aim is to establish a recognised industry standard that reduces risk, demonstrates credibility and provides quality assurance to all stakeholders involved in the KBB installation process.

The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI) is the UK’s first and only Government-sanctioned institute dedicated to Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom (KBB) installation. It works with professional installers, retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors of kitchen, bedroom & bathroom products to define industry standards, support skills development and provide the industry with a national and collaborative voice.

BiKBBI’s accredited national membership is made up of over 5,000 installation businesses, together with a network of local, regional, and national specialist retailers and a growing number of major national and international manufacturers and suppliers.  Thanks to this the organisation is able to provide consumers with reassurance of compliance in every element of KBB installation, while representing the shared interests of sole traders, SMEs and major national and international businesses working in one of the most important parts of the UK economy.

AiM is an all-encompassing initiative that assesses the methodology of installation including compliance, contractor relationships, welfare, health & safety, installation delivery, consumer proposition, contracts and terms, and service levels, ultimately delivering significant benefits for KBB businesses that deliver an installation service, its installers and consumers.

The accreditation scheme is available to retailers of all sizes, from small independent showrooms to national retail brands, as well as manufacturers and distributors operating in the domestic refurbishment market and construction sectors, and covers full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom installs, work surfaces, and those responsible for appliance installation including showers, specialist taps, wall panelling, flooring, lighting, white goods and under-floor heating.

Damian Walters, BiKBBI CEO commented: “AiM is another piece of a complex jigsaw that will contribute to positive change within the industry and indeed the raising of standards. For the first time, we have a robust mechanism to acknowledge businesses that deliver a compelling installation service and those who would benefit from advice, guidance and support in developing their proposition. AiM will help businesses and brands to develop their service, maximising commercial opportunities, whilst at the same time reducing risk. This will be a game-changer for our industry and its success will be reliant on the industry embracing and supporting this progression.”

As a key partner of InstallerSHOW, BiKBBI will be presenting AiM in detail at the event at NEC, Birmingham on 24-26 June 2025. Companies wishing to understand more about AiM and how they can get involved should visit www.bikbbi.org.uk/aim
