Mark Krull, Managing Director of Logic4training, explains the business opportunities and training routes to Gas Safe registration for plumbers looking to up their game. Plumbing is the ideal place to start a career as a tradesperson. It’s a versatile job that provides new entrants with invaluable experience on-the-tools and all the essential skills that form the foundation of the skilled trades – attention to detail, knowledge of building and construction, a technical mindset and a problem-solving approach.

While there is no shortage of work for plumbers, taking your career to the next level could lead to more challenging and satisfying work (no more dealing with u-bends!) with the opportunity to expand your business and earn more money. Starting the journey from plumbing to Gas Safe registration at the right level is key. We have designed a range of training routes to suit all needs and abilities, whether you are a new entrant at the beginning of your career, an experienced plumber looking for a new challenge or a business owner who wants to train up the next generation of plumbing and heating installers.

Get the ball rolling

The best place to start is with an introductory session, which will help you to decide where you want to be and explore the best route to achieving your goals. We offer free, no obligation workshops where prospective candidates can find out more about training pathways, qualifications, building a portfolio, ACS and how to become Gas Safe Registered.

Kick start your career

Our plumbing and heating packages are ideal for young people or school leavers working alongside experienced installers and more mature learners looking for a career change. For entry level plumbing jobs, our Bronze package provides learners with a Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating, delivering the knowledge and skills required for a career in plumbing and laying the foundation for further training in related industries, such as gas engineering. Building on this, the Silver package adds an NVQ element for candidates who require a CSCS card. This route covers the WRAS Water Regulations and enables successful candidates to apply for a JIB Plumbing Skills Card and Approved Plumber Status. Offering the highest earning potential, our Gold and Platinum packages are based around our excellent Managed Learning Programme for Domestic Gas (MLP). This course covers safety and energy efficiency and includes free air source heat pump training.

On completion of the MLP you’ll be able to sit an ACS assessment, which will enable you to become a Gas Safe registered engineer. These packages all include flexible weekend learning and a set of basic plumbing tools to get you started.

Make the move from plumbing to Gas Safe

If you already have technical knowledge and/or experience in a related trade, such as plumbing or kitchen fitting, our Managed Learning Programme for Domestic Gas (MLP) will give you the relevant qualifications and experience required to join Gas Safe register and work on domestic gas appliances. We offer two levels of MLP, one for new entrants and one for experienced tradespeople – we don’t want to you cover things you already know, we want you to get your money’s worth!

Training is delivered in three phases, firstly in our training room and gas workshop where candidates can put their new skills to the test in a safe and controlled environment. The next phase is a work experience placement with a registered gas engineer, where you’ll build a portfolio of gas work. Once this is completed, candidates can do their ACS assessment and apply to join the Gas Safe register.

Build a future-proof career

Training as a plumbing and heating engineer is a great way to earn as you learn, while gaining the essential knowledge, experience and skills to progress your career in the future. As a business owner, training up enthusiastic employees could take your business in profitable new directions.

The domestic heating landscape is changing, but tradespeople with plumbing and heating skills will always be in demand, whether it’s mending burst pipes, servicing and maintaining gas boilers or upskilling to heat pumps and renewables to deliver the next generation of low carbon heating systems.
