The Green Deal is a new way to pay for energy saving home improvements, without any upfront costs to the homeowner, landlord or tenant. Green Deal finance can be used to pay for improvements such as a new boiler or renewable heating system, double glazing or loft, cavity and solid wall insulation. To qualify for the Green Deal, the ‘golden rule’ is that the estimated saving on bills must be equal to or exceed the cost of the work involved. All improvements carried out under the Green Deal must be undertaken by authorised installers, to meet Green Deal standards. Baxi has partnered with CarbonLow, a Green Deal finance provider, Easy Green Deal™ , a training provider and the certification body Stroma, to offer competitively priced courses and accreditation to help them become Green Deal Installers. As a Green Deal Installer, heating engineers must specialise in one or more improvement sectors, and will need to achieve PAS 2030 for the work they wish to do. Baxi offers a one day training course, delivered by its training partner Easy Green Deal™ at one of the Baxi training centres to help installers become PAS 2030 certified for just £495 + VAT. Once installers have achieved the necessary standards, they can be certified as a Green Deal Installer. To do this, they will need to pay Stroma a certification fee, which covers the cost of a Quality Management System assessment, a site visit and audit. The assessments – and related fees – are repeated annually for as long as the installer wishes to remain a certified Green Deal Installer. David Cook, director of sales from Baxi, said: “The number of Green Deal installations is steadily rising, as homeowners become more aware of installing energy saving measures and reducing fuel bills. As the winter sets in, we expect the momentum to continue, so in order to help installers capitalise on this we have formed strategic partnerships with some of the major players delivering the Green Deal scheme. The aim is to ensure installers have affordable access to the skills and accreditation they need.” Once accredited, installers will be able to promote themselves as Green Deal Installers and will be entitled to use the Green Deal Quality Mark to show that the work they carry out is in line with the Government’s standards.
