Builder Martin Daly – who won the Screwfix Top Tradesperson award last year – is using video content to supercharge his business. In the second of a series for InstallerONLINE, we’re taking a deep dive into his most popular videos. Here, Martin explains why February’s top performing video did so well and how it is having an impact on his business.
February’s most engaging video was our work experience video. The construction industry is facing a big challenge: a skills shortage. As projects grow and the workforce ages, we need to attract young talent more than ever. That’s why we’ve launched a work experience programme with local schools, giving students the chance to explore careers in construction and get hands-on experience in different trades.
This initiative aligns with the Federation of Master Builders’ goal to tackle the skills gap. Through our program, students get to work with the latest tools and see the variety of career paths available in the industry.
The response to our recent video showcasing this program has been incredible, sparking discussions about a common misconception: that young people aren’t interested in trades. They are eager to learn, the real issue is that many businesses find it hard to take on apprentices due to costs.
By highlighting successful stories and student experiences, we hope to encourage local businesses to reconsider their approach to hiring apprentices. Media and videos can play a crucial role in showing just how passionate young people are about construction, opening conversations that lead to real change and give them a voice through videos.
Let’s work together to inspire the next generation! By creating more opportunities for mentorship and apprenticeships, we can build a skilled workforce for the future. The community is ready to engage, and now is the perfect time to break down barriers and shape a bright future for the construction industry.
