Electrician and Installer contributor Mark Allison was told he couldn’t park his van at a hotel he’d booked for a job, despite paying £400 a night for three rooms.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mark shared a screenshot of a message from the hotel which stated:
“Please note, we ask that all commercial vehicles are parked on the public road at the side of the hotel.”
In response, Mark’s post on X said: “Trades people not welcome or 2nd class citizens…. I wouldn’t mind but we are paying £400 per night for 3 rooms all week. Liberty.”
The post attracted similar stories in the replies, with one saying: “A company I know hires a car for lads to go between the site and hotel leaving vans at site when they’re working away.”
Mark told us that it’s a common problem when working away from home, particularly with smaller hotels and B&Bs. He did say that this hotel changed its mind once he complained, which is encouraging news.
