BUS applications in Feb 2024 up 75% year-on-year

New figures for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in February show applications were up 75% compared to the same month in 2023.

This marks the fourth month that there have been more than 2,000 applications since grants for air source and ground source heat pumps increased to £7,500.

It means the monthly average for applications received between November 2023 and February 2024 is 45% higher than the monthly average before the grant uplift.

Energy Security Secretary, Claire Coutinho, said:

“No family should be forced to make changes that aren’t right for them. With the right support – like the 50% increase in heat pump grants – families can make their homes warmer and cut their emissions without breaking the bank.

“Figures out today show that our plan is working with applications up by 75% from last year.”

Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS, said:

“The latest government figures show that applications to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme are up 75% on February 2023. This highlights that more people are looking to low carbon heating sources for their home.

“MCS data backs this – we’ve just seen the highest performing February for heat pumps in scheme history with 4,280 installations.

“The Boiler Upgrade Scheme remains a vital part of making home-grown energy more affordable and accessible and today’s figures highlights that people are continuing to take advantage of government grants to make that switch to greener and cleaner energy.”
