City & Guilds gear up for the RHI

City & Guilds have called on domestic SME heating engineers in England, who want to take part in the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) training support scheme, to consider taking one of the City & Guilds Environmental Technology qualifications in order to meet the RHI Training Support criteria.
The 2399 Environmental Technology qualifications are aimed at those already working in the industry and offer learners the chance to develop their skills in any of the following areas:
• Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems
• Solar Thermal
• Solar Photovoltaic Systems
• Heat Pumps (Air & Ground Source)
• Biomass
The RHI support scheme offers businesses aid in the form of vouchers (worth up to £500 each with a maximum of five vouchers per company) and will be available to SME businesses in England who wish to cover the following areas:  Fundamental Principles & Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems, Solar Thermal, Solar Photovoltaic Systems, Heat Pumps (both air and ground source) and Biomass, providing that the course includes a QCF assessment.
John Thompson, Chief Executive, APHC commented: “The City & Guilds Environmental Technology qualifications are a good starting point for those who want to upskill via the RHI training support scheme. One of the key considerations of the voucher scheme is that the training must include a course that includes a QCF assessment that leads to a qualification that is accredited by an awarding organisation. The City & Guilds Environmental Technology qualifications fit this requirement perfectly and will help ensure engineers get the right training they need to take part in the domestic RHI scheme once operational next spring.”
Matt Lardi, Head of industry, Products, City & Guilds commented: “At City & Guilds, we’re committed to providing people with the skills they need to progress in their careers. Following the recent DECC announcement about the RHI Training Support Scheme, many are looking to diversify into the fast-growing sector of renewable technologies and make use of this financial assistance. Our 2399 Environmental Technology qualification will equip learners with all the tools they need to compete in the renewables arena and also take part in the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme.”
