Survey finds many consumers are already thinking ElectricSafe

A significant proportion of respondents in the city of Bath are already in-the-know when it comes to ensuring the electricians they hire are competent, according to a recent survey carried out by the ElectricSafe Register.
The snap-shot survey  was carried out in Bath’s historic city centre on 19 and 20 July. It is part of an ongoing series of public awareness surveys conducted by ElectricSafe during 2013 – a campaign designed to build a bigger picture of consumer awareness and attitudes towards domestic electrical safety on a national scale.
Of those questioned, over 66 per cent  say they would ask an electrician to prove their competence before hiring them. In addition, over three quarters (76 per cent)  would expect to see an ID card tied with a Government approved scheme.
These findings mirrored a previous survey carried out in Durham. In Bath, 96 per cent  of respondents that already understood the register or had the concept explained to them said they would use ElectricSafe to find or check a competent, registered electrician. Similarly, an overwhelming 99 per cent   of respondents in Durham said they would use the Register.
Commenting on these findings, ElectricSafe Director Martin Bruno said: “It’s encouraging to see that so many people ask electricians to prove their competence and would expect to see an ID card, but the figures show that there is still room for improvement.”
“It’s also very promising to see that, in line with the findings of the Durham survey, once people are aware of the Register, almost all respondents say they would use it. The simplicity and popularity of the ElectricSafe concept that these findings demonstrate means the task ahead of us is very clear – it’s all about awareness, awareness, awareness.”
