Our regular contributor Mark Allison looks at what’s on offer for electricians and renewables installers and next month’s InstallerSHOW.

What a last few weeks we have had in the electrical industry. The launch and adoption of AMD 4 to BS7671 with plenty of changes. In short summary we have the inclusion of POE (power over ethernet for those who like full terminology), PAS 63100 directions included in the big orange book, some changes around special locations and a change in action with FI (further investigation) on EICRs (electrical installation condition reports).

The IET have some great information here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9P_8-cOfdY which well worth watching. The ESF have this handy guide here as well https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/media/buyp0p2k/esf_pocket_guide_bs7671_am4_2026_digital_v1-0-3.pdf

Live podcast at InstallerSHOW

If you prefer to get updates in person, both the NICEIC and NAPIT have roadshows running along with the legend Darren Staniforth and Dave Austin from CEF tech talks. Keep an eye out for those!

We are fast approaching InstallerSHOW 2026 and I wanted to cover our small role in the UK’s biggest and best trade show. It is running June 23 to 25 at the NEC in Biormingham and is bigger than ever! We will be attending in The Renewables Podcast trim once again with our own stand space giving out some free merchandise.

Most exciting we have a stage performance – a LIVE podcast at 2pm on 25 June with a panel and a half! We have technical managers from the NICEIC, NAPIT, ECA and ESA along with Darren Staniforth.

We are going to get technical but also cover elements of energy storage and prices from a consumer’s point of view. Sam and I are very excited about this so please do come along and say hello.

Safe isolation

We also have the safe isolation stand running once again, kindly donated space by the InstallerSHOW team. This community, led by Malcolm Duncan of Super Rod. has worked tirelessly both on and off line with industry organisations such as the IET, ECA, ESF, NICEIC, NAPIT, CEF, TIS, Proteus, Super Rod, Klein, Efixx, Megger, Dilog, Martin Dale and many others from individual electricians to global brands. The core aim is improving workplace safety and the stats since beginning this effort are trending in the right direction which is encouraging.

New products and networking

Outside of our adventures, InstallerSHOW has some huge product launches and technical seminars taking place at the event along with the legendary InstallerSOCIAL activities! You can get registered for the show here Installer SHOW 2026 Registration

Please do come along and see hello to us on The Renewables Podcast and Safe Isolation stands!

It’s going to be a busy and sunny few months.

In the day job demand around renewables is turbocharged to the max at the moment. Global events, good weather and consumers looking to control energy prices driving this. But also, I think the mass adoption phase is in motion right now.

Have a great month ahead and see you at the show.
