How to Use Navien’s NaviFill Link

SPONSORED

Most boilers will include a filling loop, a handy solution which enables homeowners to top up their boiler pressure.

Traditionally, filling loops have two valves which must be operated one after the other, however; Navien has introduced the NaviFill Link, a leaver designed to remove this frustration to ensure simplicity and convenience for you and your customers.

Featured on Navien’s Combi Crossover boilers including the NCB500 ON and NCB700 ON, Navien has utilised this easy, single-point method for your customers to self-resolve the E302 low water pressure error code, and correct what used to be an awkward conversation.

Here, Gavin Edwards, Training Manager for Navien UK, provides a simple guide for you to share with your customers, on how to use the NaviFill Link.

Step-by-step of how to use Navien’s NaviFill:

1. If a customer has an E302 error code on the boiler at a singular point within the year, its system pressure needs topping up. This fault occurs when the system pressure is below 0.4 of a bar; it should be around 1.0 – 1.2 bar. This can be caused by seasonal changes as homeowners switch their heating on or off depending on whether we are heading into or out of the winter months. Alternatively, it can be caused by the homeowner releasing air from the radiators or via a leak in the heating system pipework.

2. If the E302 error code is a ‘one-off’, then the NaviFill Link needs to be used to bring the pressure up to between 1.0 and 1.2 bar. This can be done by pulling down on the individual green lever found underneath the boiler.

3. The homeowner must hold down the lever and wait for the needle on the digital gauge to go between 1.0 and 1.2 bar. The boiler takes the information from the digital display on Navien’s NCB500 ON and NCB700 ON Combi Crossover boilers or on the mechanical display of its NCB300.

And with that, the error code is resolved in three easy steps.

Please note that you may see ‘AIR’ displayed on the screen after the fault clears. This isn’t a fault; it’s a standard sequence the boiler runs through after pressure loss and top-up. If it doesn’t clear itself, this indicates you must top up the pressure again.

However, different considerations need to be made if a customer has daily pressure loss. This can be caused by a leak in the system or by a lack of system maintenance. Additionally, homeowners need to be careful as continually topping up the pressure can dilute the heating system inhibitor. By diluting this, it reduces its effectiveness at preventing corrosion, which can also lead to potential damage to the property. If the pressure loss is frequent, the customer should contact you, the installer, to assess the issue.

If a customer is experiencing regular pressure loss, they are likely to notice wet patches around radiators and pipework, and they will also see the pressure rise when the heating is on a high level.

The latter issue is a sure sign that the boiler needs essential maintenance.

Providing maintenance

It is best practice to do an initial clean when you are first installing a heating system, and this maintenance should be continued regularly by service and repair engineers. If it is missed, dirt will likely build up, eventually making the system less effective and causing parts to wear out.

As an installer or technician, you play a big role in taking preventative steps to ensure that your customers’ heating systems stay in the best condition. Not only does this keep your customers happy, but it saves you from attending callouts for issues such as regular system pressure loss which could have been prevented. By following service guidelines, you can help keep your customers’ systems running as they should for a long time.
