A total of 405,000 applications have been completed through ENA Connect Direct – the free online platform for installers of domestic low-carbon technologies (LCTs) – since its launch two years ago.
Over 26,000 new applications were made in May 2026, including electric vehicle charge points, solar panels, heat pumps and batteries. The milestone follows the UK surpassing a 269,000 solar panel installations in 2025 – the highest total ever recorded in a calendar year.
ENA Connect Direct allows installers to manage domestic connections across multiple Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
In addition, it holds data about the LCT models compliant with the UK standards and available on the UK market to allow automation of connection applications. Manufacturers can pre-approve their devices, showcasing their compliance and compatibility and avoiding duplicate requests from installers for technical information.
The platform was launched on the 7 May 2024 by ENA and seven UK DNOs. Since then, thousands of users have benefited from instant approval of their applications, real-time application status updates, automatic cut-out detection and other AI-powered features.

“When we started developing the platform, our vision was clear. We wanted to help simplify the grid connections process for those who use it day in, day out. The platform launched as a straightforward service for seeking grid connection approvals and it has come a long way since.
“New features are being rolled out consistently to improve the user experience, like the ability to save draft applications and automatically fill in installers’ details.”
The platform is capable of issuing automatic approvals for routine applications while more complex applications are escalated to the networks. What’s more, it can automatically add the Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) to applications based on the customer’s address.
ENA is expanding the technology types available within Connect Direct so it will be possible to submit applications for LCT devices such as electric boilers and air conditioning units later in 2026.
