The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have updated the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP), L56 – Safety in the Installation and Use of Gas Systems and Appliances.
The ACOP and guidance notes give practical advice on the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and are for anyone who: installs, services, maintains or repairs gas appliances or other gas fittings as well as landlords. A number of important changes have been made including:
• Guidance on standards of training in safe gas installation
• An update of the ‘requirements for appliances and flues’
• The full list of standards and regulations has been removed and is now available from Gas Safe Register.

John Thompson, Chief Executive, APHC Ltd. commented: “It is important that gas installers are aware of these changes to this approved code of practice. The changes, even though not far reaching, will still affect many plumbing and heating engineers especially regarding standards of training and requirements for appliances and flues. I would urge gas installers to read and review the changes.”
