Carrier Solutions UK has responded to the growing national debate around the role of air conditioning in homes and public buildings, welcoming recent calls for schools, hospitals and new homes to be better equipped to cope with increasingly frequent and extreme heatwaves.
The BBC has highlighted recent political commentary, calling for greater use of air conditioning in homes and public buildings. Carrier Solutions UK has joined the conversation, saying the UK must place greater emphasis on resilient, professionally specified cooling solutions as periods of extreme heat become more frequent.
“The UK needs to adapt to a changing climate and the way we think about our buildings must adapt too,” said David McSherry, Sales Director UK&I, Carrier Solutions Europe – Residential. “Rising summer temperatures are changing how buildings need to be designed, refurbished and operated to deal with extreme heat. Effective cooling must be considered for occupant health and wellbeing. More than that, for hospitals, schools, care homes and residential properties, maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures is now a health and resilience issue.”
David McSherry also urged consumers to be cautious when purchasing portable cooling products online, following reports of a rise in counterfeit and illegally imported air conditioning units making misleading performance claims. “We’re seeing a surge in products promising to cool a room in seconds or offering unrealistic performance at suspiciously low prices. Many of these fail to deliver on their claims, may bypass F-Gas installation requirements and don’t meet UK safety or regulatory standards.
“As an industry, we can do more to educate and protect the market. By working with specifiers, developers, installers and distributors to incorporate efficient cooling into buildings from the outset, we can help ensure customers choose trusted, professionally installed systems rather than being drawn to faulty or unsafe products when cooling becomes urgent.”
