Domestic boiler sales were back to levels last seen before the credit crunch last year, according to trade body the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council. Sales levels of 1.65 million units are the highest on record, beating the previous best of 1.61 million units set in 2007.
The 2013 figure was boosted by sales through the Government’s ECO scheme of over 140,000 boilers.
Commenting on the figures, HHIC’s Director Roger Webb said:
“After five years of declining sales, it is good news that boiler sales are back to levels last seen before the economic downturn. Even without the Government supported ECO scheme, boiler sales were up nearly 5 per cent on 2012 levels.”
“The ECO scheme has obviously been a significant boost for the industry, whereas the Green Deal has arguably delivered less than expected. We will continue to make the case to improve the latter and make sure the benefits of the ECO are not lost in the debate over its future.”
