Earlier today we held our InstallerASK Twitter discussion with the Director of Marketing and Technical Support of Worcester, Bosch Group, Martyn Bridges (@heatingyourhome).
The topic for this instalment of InstallerASK was surrounding the future for gas-fired boilers.
Amongst a host of questions fired at Martyn here are the pick of the bunch.
Installer: Do you think the industry needs the domestic #RHI, or can we survive without it?
Martyn: As a whole the heating industry can survive. Renewables needs a successful #RHI to cushion up front cost.
Installer: Are we going to stop using gas altogether in the near future and if so, what will replace it?
Martyn: That is highly unlikely, although the energy mix may change.
A question from one of our followers Curaim (@curaim): Boiler efficiency versus economy. Why change a reliable inefficient unit with new efficient yet expensive and disposable one?
Martyn: We would expect our boilers to last 12 to 15 yrs or longer still working at 90% efficiency.
Curaim: But how many repairs and at what cost in those 12 to 15 years? Gas efficiency or boiler parts efficiency?
Martyn: Thanks @Curaim it’s impossible to predict the cost of repairs (if any). 90% SEDBUK efficiency.
