Modern technology can make installers' lives a whole lot easier

Supporting software

Steve Horrocks, Technical Director of Stroma Certification, believes that software holds the key to boosting the installer industry.
Stroma webThe Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) and the newly-announced renewable electricity proposals are great news for installers who have been crying out for something to unlock the hesitancy that has been restricting customer confidence since before the recession.
Two opportunities arise from these schemes. The first relies upon installers marketing themselves to customers. The most successful installers actively go and seek work instead of sitting back and waiting for the customers to come to them. However, if consumer confidence in these schemes prevails as is hoped, the more important opportunity for installers lies in preparing themselves to respond more efficiently to increased customer volume. It requires a slight shift away from traditional ways of working and is achieved by embracing new technology and mobile software.
For Stroma, it’s about going back to basics to identify the fundamental problems holding back installers from being more effective in their job. Unnecessary customer visits and site trips, endless form filling take a lot of time.
By using modern technology, time becomes less of a concern. iPads and tablets are increasingly becoming an integral part of our domestic lives, and there is no reason why their user-friendly functionality cannot provide the same impact in SMEs, small businesses and larger corporations.
Consider a scenario where, during the course of a single customer visit, you can perform an assessment, take supporting photographs, produce room diagrams, make calculations, sign contractual and regulatory documents and more – all at the touch of a button. The software exists right now in the marketplace and by taking advantage installers can expect to save time, reduce paperwork, and concentrate on running their business and earning a wage.
Today’s software is simple, effective and the most reliable way to keep up-to-speed with our changing industry.
