In certain areas, our industry is continually breaking new ground and challenging the accepted norm.
In others, it is surprisingly slow to react to the changes around it.
There’s no denying that the technologies continually being developed in order to create more efficient products – in the heating, plumbing and renewables sectors – are impressive. Without cutting-edge research, design and manufacturing, the Government’s drive to improve the energy efficiency of the UK’s properties would gain no traction at all.
And yet despite the fact that the adoption of the latest technologies is key to success in our sector, there are still many of us who are slow to move with the times. There are still plenty of installers with no way of promoting their business to an audience who are increasingly using the internet to find what they need – whether it’s a replacement boiler or simply the person to replace it. The success of the various online ‘find a plumber’ resources proves this.
Forget the current buzz that is ‘social media’ – unfortunately, we’re still talking about the basic stuff like an email address and a website.
