A new fitting has been introduced by Omega Flex, manufacturers of the TracPipe® semi-rigid gas piping system.
The ‘elbow’, which joins the existing range of AutoFlare® fittings, enables TracPipe to be run at a tight right angle from a connection, while allowing a conversion from TracPipe to copper.
One of the major benefits of the new AutoFlare ‘elbow’ is that TracPipe can now be connected directly to a gas meter outlet connection (where the meter is fixed on a meter bracket) at a 90 degree angle, which then enables the TracPipe to be routed straight out the back of the meter box. This removes the need to use a number of different fittings from the meter outlet to TracPipe connection, making for a safer and more efficient way of connecting to the gas meter outlet. Among other uses, the new fitting can also be used to make the final connection to copper pipe leading to a boiler, gas fire or cooker point.
The new ‘elbow’ fitting is manufactured from brass. It comes in two sizes, 22mm and 28mm, and can be used to connect to copper pipework or a brass meter outlet using a compression fitting. As with other AutoFlare fittings, TracPipe reels and KITs, the new ‘elbow’ fitting is available from both national and independent plumbers’ merchants.
Omega Flex developed the new elbow fitting in response to feedback from customers who will find it especially useful when making connections in confined spaces. While the elbow has many potential applications, it is expected that the main use will be for connecting TracPipe directly to gas supply outlets in meter boxes and then running in one continuous length to an appliance.
