Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, has announced a new lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
Sturgeon told the residents of Scotland that it is a legal requirement to stay at home, and only leave for essential purposes. This includes working from home unless it’s not possible.
There has been some uncertainty within the plumbing and heating industry on what work can be undertaken under the new rules, so Fiona Hodgson, Chief Executive at SNIPEF issued the following advice:
We understand that construction and other essential work can continue if deemed safe. Both the Scottish Government and NI Executive will be discussing whether further restrictions will be required.
Please see below for guidance in your area:
Following the lockdown announcement by the First Minister, Scottish SNIPEF members should note the following key points:
- At present, outdoor workspaces, construction and manufacturing premises can remain open but employers should plan for minimum numbers of people on-site; this will be kept under review.
- Guidance for tradespeople in Level 4 is as before, i.e. tradespeople should only go into a house to carry out or deliver essential work or services i.e. utility safety checks, repairs, maintenance and installations, and the carrying out of repairs and maintenance that would otherwise threaten the household’s health and safety.
Business representatives from the sector are meeting with the Scottish Government today to discuss whether further restrictions will be required.
