Solar PV provider responds to Greg Barker's speech

Statement from Robert Goss, MD Conergy UK & Ireland:
“The decision to hand local authorities responsibility led to some issues with countryside conservation, which could have been foreseen following the problems with wind farms.
Let’s be clear: solar farms are not a problem in their own right, if they are properly located. Many villages are perfectly content with a giant solar farm quiet humming away in the background, and we are all benefiting from reduced pressure on the creaking, carbonated grid.
The thousands of acres of large roofs on commercial properties singled out by Mr. Barker are a massive opportunity for solar, but almost all are leased out, and few property owners are thinking about selling electricity to tenants.
Rather than passing the buck, the government might consider the rooftops of its own vast estates. Solar rooftops could cut public sector energy bills by many millions for decades to come.”
