The transition to low carbon heating is increasingly being demonstrated through installations in everyday homes. Two recent projects featuring the new NIBE S2060 heat pump highlight how the system can be integrated into different property types and heating approaches, while maintaining a focus on efficiency, comfort, and ease of installation.

The S2060 incorporates several key technical and performance features, including low global warming potential (GWP) R290 refrigerant, a seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) of 5.33, excellent cooling capability, flexible siting with no restrictive installation constraints, and low sound power levels with Quiet Mark certification. These characteristics support efficient operation, versatile installation options, and quiet performance in residential environments.

Retrofit installation in a two-bedroom terrace

In a two-bedroom terraced home undergoing retrofit work, installer Szymon Czaban of Urban Plumbers Limited carried out a replacement of an existing boiler with the NIBE S2060 Air Source Heat Pump.

The installation was completed with minimal disruption to the property, with much of the existing pipework reused to support the new system. This approach allowed the heating upgrade to be carried out efficiently within the constraints of the home, helping to streamline the transition to low carbon heating.

The S2060 was installed alongside the NIBE SMO S40 controller, providing system management and integration with the home’s heating requirements. The setup is designed to support straight forward control and reliable operation, while maintaining high efficiency across a range of outdoor conditions.

The installation demonstrated how the system can be adapted to existing heating infrastructure, supporting practical upgrades in homes where full system replacement is not required.

Full system upgrade with low-temperature heating

A second installation led by Damon Blakemore of Blakemore Renewables involved a more extensive heating system upgrade built around the NIBE S2060 heat pump.

In this project, the heat pump was integrated with a low-temperature wall heating system designed to deliver efficient and consistent heat distribution throughout the home. The installation was developed as a complete heating solution, incorporating modern low carbon technology throughout the system design.

The property benefits from the S2060’s operational performance, including quiet running and consistent output. These characteristics support comfortable day to day use while maintaining efficient energy consumption.

The system design also benefits from compatibility with the NIBE SMO S40 controller, allowing for system management and optimisation of heating performance across the property.

A flexible heating solution for modern homes

Across both installations, the NIBE S2060 heat pump was implemented as a central component in delivering low carbon heating solutions suited to different installation requirements. Its design supports integration into existing heating systems as well as incorporation into fully redesigned heating layouts.

The projects demonstrate how modern heat pump technology can be applied in practical settings, supporting energy efficient heating solutions tailored to the needs of individual homes.
