Team of the Year take on Benali’s Big Run

Hampshire’s Junior Team of the Year responded to a challenge from Installer, and ran 30 miles to raise money for Benali’s Big Run.
Players from Sholing Youth FC under 12s covered the distance together, pitching in about a mile each.
The idea was to match Saints FC’s legendary defender Francis Benali (45), who’s been running to all 20 Premier League stadiums, averaging between 30 and 50 miles a day.

So far Franny’s raised almost £75,000 for Cancer Research UK and the Sholing lads chipped in £30, a pound for every mile they ran.
Now they’re challenging other teams to do the same, and donate to the cause.
“It’s a good chance to get active, and do some good at the same time,” said Andy Martin, Coach of Sholing Under12s and father of winger Bailey Martin.
“Francis Benali is a local hero, so we want to support him.
Installer magazine challenged us to run as far as Franny and we did it, so let’s see if other clubs are up to it as well.
“Every football team needs to work on their fitness, so why not make it a bit of fun and help a great cause?”
Sholing Youth FC under 12s play at the highest level of division 1 in The Southampton Tyro league. They’re the current Under 11s Champions and created history by winning all 16 games last season. For more information please visit www.sholingfc.co.uk/index.php/youth/u12
