The CIPHE has issued the latest document in its Technical Awareness Paper (TAP) series. TAP 002 How to take care of hot and cold water supply systems in unoccupied homes has been authored by CIPHE Past President Stan Tildsley, through the CIPHE’s Safe Water Group.
TAP 002 outlines the measures that can be taken by householders, plumbers, property managers and others to provide safe water in traditional domestic water systems, when shutting down a property for short holiday periods or longer times of several months, for a closed season. The purposes of TAP 002 are:
• To render the property safe from a pipework failure resulting in a water leak and the likely ensuing damage.
• To prevent potentially harmful bacteria becoming embedded within the water pipe system’s components; which can occur when water is unused for long periods of time.
