Wilo UK has switched all employee vehicles to hybrid and electric engines, demonstrating its support for the government’s ‘green industrial revolution’.
With Boris Johnson recently unveiling a £12bn plan for a ‘green industrial revolution’ the move to bring forward the phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles is being encouraged and car manufacturers are now accelerating the shift to electric engines.
The government is also currently driving vehicle choice towards electric vehicles, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero emissions in its ‘Road to Zero’ strategy. The aim of this initiative is for at least half of new cars to be ultra-low emission by 2030, in a bid to help to deliver cleaner air, a better environment and a strong clean economy.
With sustainability at the forefront of Wilo’s practices, Wilo UK is migrating its fleet of employee vehicles to hybrid or electric over the next three years and is also investigating the benefits of migrating its fleet of commercial vehicles.
One issue generally affecting the take up of hybrid vehicles in the UK is the lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. To help combat this, Wilo has installed two charging stations with four charge points in total at its headquarters in Burton, Staffordshire, and will also be installing charging points at employees’ homes.
Lee Tebbatt, Managing Director of Wilo UK, comments: “Wilo is a global manufacturer and here in the UK climate change and sustainability is a key concern for us and something we are taking seriously – both internally for our employees and for our customers too.
“It has been our aim since early 2019 to implement this change to our fleet and it goes hand in hand with our targets for 2021 and beyond to put sustainability at the forefront of our busines practices.
“Environmentally this is great news for Wilo and will certainly help us meet our CSR objectives. The change will also benefit our employees who can make use of the zero tax Benefit in Kind (BIK) saving for company car drivers choosing an electric car.”
