ZERO puts installers at its heart

ZERO, the leading renewable energy company, has undergone a substantial rebrand to represent its pioneering vision for a more environmentally sustainable heating strategy, with installers at the heart of its ethos.
Renewable heating technology moves rapidly and ZERO’s fresh look and branding better reflects what sets them apart from the rest. Established in 2011 as Zero Carbon Future, ZERO services the UK from its Exeter headquarters. Working at the forefront of innovative technology, it offers premium carbon neutral heating products, from biomass boilers to heat pumps and solar thermal systems.
In response to the strong surge of interest in renewable technologies across the UK, ZERO has experienced phenomenal growth over the last three years to become a nationwide one-stop shop renewables company turning over £5m this year. ZERO recently expanded, taking on eight new members of staff and moving to a new site four times the size of the original office.
As a qualified heating engineer with MCS accreditation and 12 years’ experience, managing director Finian Parrick understands the nuts and bolts of this industry. Earlier in 2014, he commissioned in-depth research with customers on their installer database: “The resulting feedback really helped us streamline our system,” explains Finian. “Now, installers can quickly find what they are looking for via our slick ‘brochure’ style website, which is compatible with smart phones, and we’ve incorporated ‘request a call back’ and ‘request a quote’ features – great for on-the-go installers.” In addition, ZERO’s new website includes more information specific to homeowners, including testimonials from end-users and Finian hopes this will be a great marketing tool to encourage more business for installers.
ZERO is a comprehensive design and supply solution for today’s renewable energy installers and this rebrand goes deeper than new graphics. As the installer network evolves and expands – with now more than 200 installers nationwide – ZERO continually develops to incorporate the latest technologies, providing valued installers with all the essential training, design and technical support to enable a seamless installation. At HQ, a dedicated team work in research and development, searching out ground-breaking solutions for commercial and domestic heating systems. “We’ve always had an innovative component to our business and we seek out gaps in the market, then develop different applications for existing technology,” says Finian.
One key area of innovation is ZERO’s internally-created design and order software package, FIGU. “An invaluable resource unique to us, FIGU is used by our in-house design team to create bespoke plans and automatically list cutting-edge components required to generate a quote,” explains Finian. “We do license this to some larger installers – which we are told is helping transform the way they do business – and we plan to take it to the next level with added functionality very soon.”
So, with a specialist team of 26, ZERO is far from simply a renewable heating distributor. As pioneering providers of renewable energy systems, ZERO combines expertise and vast experience with advanced technology. Finian explains, “We genuinely want to help our installers contribute to a more sustainable future and ultimately generate a zero carbon legacy.” He knows that one size doesn’t fit all. “With a dynamic, cohesive approach, we devise the customer’s chosen renewable heating system whilst delivering optimum performance for both large-scale commercial projects and smaller domestic installations.”
Finian has chosen two hi-tech Austrian firms to be ZERO’s principal suppliers: “We take pride in selecting suppliers not just in terms of quality of product, but also in terms of minimal environmental impact.” Zero is one of only two UK distributors of Fröling boilers, a global leader in the biomass heating sector and ZERO is proud to have a new exclusive partnership with Heliotherm, a brand at the forefront of advanced heat pump technology.
ZERO offers comprehensive, hands-on training programme – installers can learn how to install and service a state-of-the-art Fröling biomass boiler with a renewable energy specialist, and discover how to design and specify systems. Plus ZERO’s free design service for new build and retrofit applications provides installers with technical drawings, detailed installation manuals and easy-to-follow user guides. ZERO also provides a complete design and build service and support is fundamental. ZERO’s technical team is available to offer advice on energy-saving technologies and an on-site visit can also be requested.
“Our vision is to excel at every level – ultimately we want our name and our installers’ names to be synonymous with top quality. So we seek out world-class manufacturers, provide installers with excellent skills, technical and marketing support, offer bespoke design and expert engineering to give an unparalleled service,” comments Finian who is looking to expand into the competitive European market when the time is right.
