As part of its Mission to Zero program, ABB’s production facility in Zibo, China, is delivering measurable energy and emissions reductions. Focusing on energy efficiency, electrification, renewable electricity and digital energy management, the site has reduced its energy consumption by 71 MWh and prevented more than 63 tonnes of CO₂e emissions each year. This is equivalent to the electricity needed to power several hundred average homes for a month.
The facility has implemented several efficiency upgrades across its operations including LED lighting, optimised air conditioning and improved air compressor controls to reduce unnecessary energy use. These measures enhance efficiency while lowering emissions and costs, showing how digitalisation and smart energy management support low carbon manufacturing.
The Zibo site, which manufactures wiring accessories, has implemented an ABB energy management system to monitor, analyse and optimise energy performance across the facility. This platform provides real-time visibility into energy consumption, enabling continuous improvement and data driven decision making.
Building on these efficiency gains, the facility operates entirely on renewable energy, with approximately 15 per cent of its electricity demand now generated through solar PV panels installed within the industrial park, complemented by certified green electricity procurement. The site has been ISO 50001 certified for energy management and has also been recognised by local authorities as a Zibo City–level Green Factory.
