Micro-turbine technology has evolved from early systems of 30–70kWe to today’s systems, which can have individual ratings of up to 250kWe. Packages up to 1MWe are now available that can be assembled into multiple units for projects of 5–10MWe. These modern units are packaged with integrated digital protection, synchronisation and controls. They produce high combined heat and power efficiencies and are capable of using multiple fuels.
Micro-turbines are a relatively new technology for the generation of electric power. So, not surprisingly, questions are often raised about how micro-turbines perform and how they differ from other, more traditional forms of electric power generation.
Small gas turbines are made by Capstone, marketed via Cogenco and Turner EPS, and Turbec T100, marketed via Newenco.
