The way installers access the Government Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) Installer Portal is changing.
From 3 November 2026, the portal will move to GOV.UK One Login, providing a simple, secure and more consistent sign-in experience across government services.
What does this mean for installers?
After the switchover, every registered user who accesses the BUS Installer Portal will need:
- A GOV.UK One Login
- An approved BUS Installer Account
Both accounts must use the same email address. This applies to all registered users, not only the authorised representative on your BUS account.
If you already have a GOV.UK One Login for another government service and it uses the same email address as your BUS Installer Account, you do not need to create another one. If you do not have an account, you can create your GOV.UK One Login now.
Prepare ahead
Taking these steps before 3 November will help you continue accessing the portal smoothly:
- Check the email address linked to your BUS Installer Account.
- Create a GOV.UK One Login using that same email address, if you do not already have one.
- Make sure every registered user in your organisation does the same.
- Update any saved bookmarks for the BUS Installer Portal to the correct portal address.
Preparing early is particularly important if you have BUS vouchers expiring on, or close to, 3 November, to help avoid account access issues when redeeming them.
Need any support?
Ofgem is holding a short teach-in on Wednesday 14 October, from 3pm to 3.30pm, covering the new login journey and answering installer questions. You can register for the teach-in session here.
If you need help with GOV.UK One Login, contact the GOV.UK One Login support team or call 0300 373 9020. For questions specifically about your BUS Installer Account, email [email protected] or call 0330 053 2006. Where possible, Ofgem asks organisations to channel queries through one nominated contact. This will help streamline support on common issues and respond to queries more efficiently.
Helping you make the most of BUS
As well as preparing for the new login process, now is a good time to make sure your business is ready to support customers interested in switching to a heat pump.
If you are looking to build your heat pump skills or expand your offering, eligible heating engineers can receive up to £500 through the Heat Training Grant towards an approved heat pump training course. The grant can help reduce the cost of upskilling and support your next steps towards becoming MCS certified.
To apply for the training grant and find out more information, visit the Government website here.
Once suitably trained and certified, installers can help eligible customers access support through BUS. Property owners in England and Wales can receive £7,500 towards a heat pump, rising to £9,000 for eligible off-gas-grid properties currently heated by oil or LPG. The installer applies for the grant on the customer’s behalf.
