Foldaway toilets and a £30,000 council house bath are two of Brits’ most bizarre bathroom requests given to installers.
Radiators fixed to ceilings and garish colour schemes were also listed when bathroom specialist nuielux interviewed installers about their oddest design requests.
While some ideas recalled retro styles that most of us have left behind – like carpeted bathrooms and bidets – others were surprisingly unconventional.
The most bizarre requests included:
- A foldaway toilet
- A £30,000 bath in a council house
- A shower the width of the room, with a window directly facing it
- A towel radiator fixed horizontally to the ceiling
- All-black paint and tiles, with the only window in the room boarded up
- A super narrow 1,200 mm bath (vs. 1,700 mm standard size)
And it’s not just about unusual features.
One installer stated a customer wanted their bathroom arranged specifically so they could “wash their feet in the bidet,” while another had the challenge of creating a bathroom with a particularly wild colour scheme: pink ceiling, purple floor, orange walls and a green toilet.
Some of these eccentric projects offer a fun design challenge, while others are trickier, from lights positioned in impractical spots, to chaotic “mix and match” tiles covering every surface, and overly complex showers that spray from every angle.
